Choose Xtream or an M3U playlist
Vyn is an IPTV player for your own sources. It does not provide channels, playlists, subscriptions or provider credentials. Before starting, install Vyn on Apple TV with tvOS 26.4 or later and have the connection details for content you are entitled to access.
- Xtream Codes: use this when your service gives you a server URL, username and password. Depending on the provider, the account can include live channels, movies and series.
- M3U / M3U8 Playlist: use this when you have a playlist URL. The playlist supplies media entries; programme listings may need a separate XMLTV guide URL.
Use the source type that matches the details you received. A provider’s website login page is not necessarily its streaming server address. If you only have a playlist link, add it as a playlist rather than guessing Xtream credentials.
How to add IPTV on Apple TV
Open Libraries in Vyn and choose Add Library. Select the source type below. The connection page lets you give the source an optional name so you can recognise it later.
Connect an Xtream account
- Choose Xtream IPTV. On the connection page, the source type is Xtream Codes.
- Enter the Server URL supplied by your provider, including http:// or https:// and any port it specifies.
- Enter the provider’s Username and Password in their separate fields.
- Select Connect and allow the provider’s channels to load. If connection fails, check the details and account status with your provider.
- Open Live TV, choose a channel and start watching. Movies and series supplied by the account can also appear in Vyn’s library and search.
Add an M3U or M3U8 playlist
- Choose M3U / M3U8 Playlist.
- Enter the complete M3U / M3U8 playlist URL. Keep any parameters supplied with it; removing part of the link can prevent access.
- If you have one, enter the XMLTV guide URL in its optional field. This is the schedule feed, not the playlist itself.
- Select Connect and let the channel list load.
- Open Live TV and test a channel before adjusting favourites or adding more sources.
Treat playlist links like passwords. They can contain account credentials. Keep them out of public posts and screenshots, and use HTTPS when your provider supports it.
Set up the programme guide
The electronic programme guide, or EPG, adds schedules and now-and-next information to channels. Channel playback and guide data are separate: a working stream can still have no listings. Browse the guide, search for channels and save favourites to make a long list easier to use.
Where do the listings come from?
Xtream guide information comes from your provider. For playlists, Vyn can use a guide declared by the playlist or an XMLTV URL you supply. It supports XMLTV files ending in .xml or .xml.gz. Ask the playlist provider for the matching guide feed if you have not received one.
Add or refresh a playlist’s XMLTV guide
- Open the IPTV connection page for the provider you are using.
- Under Programme Guide, enter the New XMLTV guide URL and choose Save Guide URL.
- Use Refresh Programme Guide to request updated listings, then return to Live TV.
Listings need to match the playlist’s channel identifiers (tvg-id). A guide for another playlist may load successfully without matching your channels. If some channels have listings and others do not, ask the provider to check those channel IDs and guide coverage.
Watch catch-up when the provider offers it
Catch-up lets you replay a previously broadcast programme when the provider makes it available. It is included in Vyn’s free experience, but availability depends on the source, channel, programme and the provider’s replay window.
Look for the catch-up or restart option on an eligible programme. A schedule entry alone does not mean a recording exists. If the option is missing, or an older programme fails, check that the provider offers replay for that channel and time. Vyn cannot create a recording or extend the provider’s catch-up window.
Watch up to four channels with Multiview
Vyn Plus adds Multiview for up to four live channels together, along with personal channel groups. Start by checking that each channel plays on its own, then add the channels you want to follow together.
Each simultaneous stream uses a provider connection. Your provider’s allowance, network and device must support the combined streams; Vyn Plus does not increase that allowance. If adding a channel stops another one, check the provider’s connection limit and whether other devices are using the same account.
If IPTV is not working
The source will not connect
Check the selected source type, server or playlist URL, and any username and password. Look for missing characters or spaces added when copying. Confirm that access is active with the provider and that Apple TV has an internet connection. Use the provider’s streaming address, not its account-management page.
Channels play, but the EPG is empty
Check the Programme Guide status on the IPTV connection page and try Refresh Programme Guide. For M3U, confirm that an XMLTV feed is available and that its URL still works. If only some listings are missing, check channel-ID matching and whether the provider publishes a schedule for those channels.
A channel buffers or will not start
Try another channel from the same source. A single failing channel may have a provider-side issue; failures across several channels can point to the connection, account or service. Stop playback on other devices using the account, test a lower-resolution channel if available, and compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection where possible.
Refresh channels after a provider change
Use Refresh Provider on the IPTV connection page when your provider has updated its channel list. Refreshing the programme guide updates listings; it is a separate action from refreshing the provider’s channels.
If the problem continues, send feedback with your Vyn and tvOS versions, source type, error message and whether the issue affects one channel or the whole source. Remove usernames, passwords and credential-bearing URLs from any screenshots.
Common IPTV questions
Do I need Vyn Plus to watch live TV?
Online playback and supported catch-up are included in the free experience. Multiview, personal channel groups and additional sources are Plus features. Any subscription required by your provider is separate; current Vyn Plus pricing is shown in the app.
Can I download IPTV to watch offline?
No. Xtream/IPTV, M3U playlists and live streams are streaming-only in Vyn. Offline downloads are for compatible direct Plex, Jellyfin and Emby movie and episode files on the upcoming iPhone and iPad versions with Plus.
Is Vyn available on iPhone, iPad or Mac?
Vyn is available now on Apple TV; iPhone, iPad and Mac are coming soon. See supported devices and requirements for the platform details.
